In 1949 Berkswich Women’s Institute published a booklet entitled “The Story of Berkswich”.  Each chapter told of a different aspect of life in the Parish and there were no photographs.

Now almost 60 years later Berkswich History Society, with the co-operation of the W.I., is to republish the book together with photographs, drawings and a copy of the 1840 Tithe Map, in time for Christmas.  However, the story of the parish will not stop in 1949 but will continue to the present day.  The book will contain pictures of buildings long since gone, such as Stockton Farm, Barnfields Farm, Weeping Cross House and many other interesting photographs.  It will tell the stories of “The butcher and the Maggots”, “The removal of the boulder stone” from Spring Hill by a group of young “hooligans”, how the Sister Dora Convalescent Home came to be at Milford, and much, much more.

The book will be on sale on 1st November for £9.95 and will make an ideal Christmas present for someone in your family, or for friends who have left the area but would like a reminder of their time in the Parish.

The book can be obtained from, "Eastfield, Kitlings Lane, Walton on the Hill, 53 Old Croft Road, Walton on the Hill, Bridle Road Post Office and Holy Trinity Church.
